Bid Description:
The Town of Brighton is soliciting bids from qualified contractors with high pressure lines. The purpose of this project is to ensure the safe closure of a line to prevent future flooding. Project Background There is an abandoned lead service line connected with a gooseneck to the watermain. This froze and ruptured in January of 2025, resulting in flooding of the immediate vicinity on Cross Street. The line has a temporary cap which was placed in the spring of 2025. The line requires removal from the main line. Possible challenges of project to include: Identifying if goose neck is lead soldered or threaded; possibility of gate valve closure failure and expanded contamination of main line. Scope of Work • Coordination with Digsafe • Location and mapping of existing utilities in the project area • Contractor must be familiar with high risk, tight digs, and preferably have experience with jetting capabilities. • Must use certified flagging company during any work within the roadway • Coordination with Vermont Electric Coop to stabilize a utility pole adjacent to project area • Coordination with H2O innovation for water shut off and relieve pressure from system • Removal of abandoned pipe off mainline • Perform all pressure testing and backfill of area to ensure stabilization and future integrity of line • Coordinate line flushing and boil water notice with businesses, operators, and board. • Complete cleanup and site preparation for concrete, topsoil, seed and hay. • Be sure to advise H2O Innovation when water quality testing is needed • Use of Trench Box is required at the dig site Cleanup and Final Inspection • Remove all equipment, debris, and materials from the site. • Prepare area for reseeding of grass or cement work as needed • Conduct a final inspection with the Town of Brighton representative and H2O Innovation Special Considerations Project must be completed by July 1 or started after July 6 due to July 4th celebration planned in the park
