As a Division in the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the Vermont Geological Survey (VGS) is guided by the mission to protect the environment, human health and safety. The VGS has been involved in mapping projects funded through the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program for over 25 years. VGS products are surficial and bedrock geologic maps, plus applied maps used by towns, government agencies and consultants to address issues such as: groundwater resources and planning, mineral resources and to mitigate landslide and rockfall hazards. DEC is seeking proposals for a surficial geological map to support Aquifer Characterization at the Rutland Regional Airport, located in Rutland County, Vermont, is ~ 46 square kilometers (Figure 1). The map area comprises the southwestern portion of the Rutland 7.5’ quadrangle and is bounded to the north by southern boundary of the Town of Rutland and to the south by the southern boundary of this quadrangle. Surficial geologic mapping was completed in adjacent areas by Van Hoesen (2009) in the Town of Rutland and by DeSimone (2006) in the Wallingford Quadrangle. The goal is to produce a surficial geologic map, 3 cross-sections, and selected groundwater resources maps at a scale of 1: 12,000.
