Bid Description:
Updated Stormwater Management Rules will require that sites with impervious surfaces totaling 3-acres or more located in the Lake Champlain basin obtain permit coverage by October 2023. These sites will be required to evaluate the ability to provide improved treatment of stormwater runoff from these impervious surfaces and implement improvements in a schedule to be established in a forthcoming general permit. Approximately ninety K-12 public schools in the Lake Champlain basin may be affected and therefore would need to comply with the permit requirements by 2023. To help schools prepare, the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) established the Greens Schools Initiative to assist early adopter schools to comply with the new requirements. Some schools already hold an existing stormwater permit, while others have not done any stormwater work thus far. Of those schools that have already constructed stormwater infrastructure, most are addressing portions of the school property (such as roof drains and/or parking lot runoff) but may not be addressing the entire property. The three-acre requirements will apply to the entire parcel.
