Bid Description:
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has a mission to preserve, enhance, restore and conserve Vermont’s natural resources, and protect human health for the benefit of this and future generations. The DECs Watershed Management Division is responsible for protecting, maintaining, enhancing, and restoring the quality of Vermont’s surface water resources. It has set clear goals to support both healthy ecosystems and public uses in and on Vermont’s 800 lakes and ponds, 23,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 300,000 acres of wetlands. Water chestnut is a non-native invasive aquatic plant that was first introduced into Lake Champlain in the 1940s. Ongoing management efforts since the 1980s have significantly reduced populations in Lake Champlain and other Vermont waters; however, recreational, commercial, and navigational uses of some areas of southern Lake Champlain are restricted by water chestnut. DEC is seeking proposals for the mechanical removal of water chestnut plants followed by hand pulling efforts, from designated locations in Lake Champlain (approximately 300 acres). In addition to this operation, a secondary hand pulling component will include harvesting locations north of the mechanical harvesters, and south of Stony Point (43.743678, -73.366259). Total acreage for both efforts is approximately 600 acres. Up to $360,000.00 is anticipated to be available for a project during June 1, 2019 to September 30, 2019.
