Bid Description:
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has a mission to preserve, enhance, restore and conserve Vermont’s natural resources, and protect human health for the benefit of this and future generations. The DECs Watershed Management Division is responsible for protecting, maintaining, enhancing and restoring the quality of Vermont’s surface water resources. It has set clear goals to support both healthy ecosystems and public uses in and on Vermont’s 800 lakes and ponds, 23,000 miles of rivers and streams and 300,000 acres of wetlands.
Water chestnut is a non-native invasive aquatic plant that was first introduced into Lake Champlain in the 1940s. Ongoing management efforts since the 1980s have significantly reduced populations in Lake Champlain and other Vermont waters; however, recreational, commercial and navigational uses of some areas of southern Lake Champlain are restricted by water chestnut.
DEC is seeking proposals for the handpulling of water chestnut plants from nine (9) designated locations in central Lake Champlain and within Vermont on other waterbodies (approximately 300+ acres). DEC will provide a water chestnut management on-site field supervisor to oversee and coordinate the management program in 2019. Up to $25,000 is anticipated to be available from June 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019.
