Bid Description:
The Supporting Nursing Moms at Work grant provides funding and technical assistance to 15 worksites across the state to ensure workplace compliance with the federal lactation accommodation law. The grants are made possible by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). The purpose of the Supporting Nursing Moms at Work grant is to assist businesses in compliance with the federal lactation accommodation law that fits the scale of the organization. The Supporting Nursing Moms at Work grant covers materials and technical assistance for the establishment or improvement of a lactation space. Worksites will be given a one-time award of $1,000 to help create and furnish a space for mothers to express breast milk in the workplace. Worksites will be matched with a state breastfeeding coalition staff or Vermont Department of Health District Office staff from their area who will provide technical assistance throughout the grant period to: • Write and adopt policy to support breastfeeding in the workplace • Identify the needs of the workplace in terms of lactation space • Determine space that will be used as lactation space • Create updated lactation space • Apply for “Breastfeeding Friendly Employer” designation from the Vermont Department of Health
